CORAL MOUNTAIN
Powered by the Kelly Slater Wave Company, in La Quinta, is set to have the biggest, rideable open barrel, human-made waves in the world
The Kelly Slater Surf Resort will rise in the serene desert landscape of La Quinta at the base of Coral Mountain near the popular Coachella Valley’s Music Festival area. 400 acre, $250 million surf resort remains on track to break ground in the desert by 2021! This 18-million gallon wave pool will utilize wave making technology for pro and casual surfers alike. The master plan resort community sits on 400 acres and has plans for a hotel, wave basin and other amenities.
World champion surfer Kelly Slater has teamed up with Meriwether Companies and Big Sky Wave Developments to begin construction on Coral Mountain, LA Quinta. The full-service private resort plans include a hotel, restaurant and wave basin said to create the biggest, rideable open barrel, human-made waves in the world. It is also speculated that there may be ponds for stand up paddleboarding and electric hydrofoil boards. The resort and surfing amenities are exclusive to members and guests. Slater is the founder of Kelly Slater Wave Company which created the wave technology for the wave basin.
Coral Mountain joins the three approved wave pool projects that will make Coachella Valley, already a music mecca, an unlikely but highly desirable destination for surfers.
THERMAL BEACH CLUB
Ocean Style Living in Coachella Valley Becomes a Reality as 20-Acre Surf Lagoon and Private Residential Community Gets Green Light
Thermal Beach Club is just one of four surf parks racing to completion in the Coachella Valley.
Located in the Coachella Valley, will be the first private residential community in the U.S. with a man-made lagoon offering Perfect Swell technology. The 20-acre lagoon will be surrounded by 326 high-end homes, six-acres of white sand beach, spa and fitness center, sport courts, retail, pool and swim-up bar, dining facilities and more. TBC, a multi-generational private club, sits on 240 acres of Kohl Ranch Land being developed by WhiteStar Development.
“The clear lagoon at Thermal Beach Club will provide an environment for all generations to enjoy including up to eight-foot swells for surfers and a calm water area for toddlers, as the technology offers a controlled experience,” said Patrick Belous, co-founder.

PALM SPRINGS SURF CLUB
Slated for a 2022 opening, The Palm Springs Surf Club
The Palm Springs Surf Club is a rebirth for the old Wet n’ Wild park in Palm Springs. The renovations, lead by the new owners Pono Partners LLC, will focus on a state-of-the-art wave pool capable of producing waves for everyone from beginners to professional surfers.
The wave pool at Palm Springs Surf Club is an operational prototype using Surf Loch technology to pump out a variety of wave shapes and sizes. Pono partners is using it to raise additional funding for expansion of the pool and additional renovation of the facility.
That team is lead by Cheyne Magnussen (formerly the wave architect at BSR Surf Resort in Waco) and Kalani Robb, both of whom are part of Pono Partner LLC who bought the park in January 2019. They’re keeping the wave specifics under wraps, but from what we’ve heard, their goal is to create waves that provide barrel, turn and air opportunities.
While the wave pool will be the center of the Palm Springs Surf Club, the team plans to delivery more than just a wave pool. They are putting $50 million into the 21 acre property and plan to keep the lazy river and other amenities for kids. Their plans also include a restaurant and spa, and bar.
The Palm Springs Wet n’ Wild has been making waves in the desert since 1986. Even though the original pool was intended for recreation, not surfing, with the right pump configuration, it produced small surfable rights that were occasionally used for competitions. These same waves were used when Rick Kane won the contest in the 1987 film “North Shore”.
